Philanthropic Funds Back

Philanthropic funds are a great alternative to a private foundation because donors can make recommendations for distribution of income and principal from the fund to IRS-approved tax exempt organizations.

The Jewish Foundation handles all administrative tasks, i.e. investment of assets, record keeping and check writing. The minimum gift needed to establish a philanthropic fund is $10,000. Donors can add to their philanthropic fund at any time and receive a tax deduction for each contribution, and there are no capital gains taxes on gifts of long-term appreciated property.

Family Philanthropy
Four times a year your family can sit around the dinner table and decide to which not-for-profit organizations you want your fund to distribute. In addition, you can provide in your Philanthropic Fund Agreement that upon your death, your children continue the tradition as the designated recommenders of your family fund.
These funds are a wonderful way to involve the family in tzedakah.
